Family Promise Of Grand Rapids
Hi Riv City Fam!
We’ve come across a tangible way to love our community in the midst of this isolation.
Family Promise of Grand Rapids is a local organization that strives to end homelessness, one family at a time. Check out their website for all the great things this organization does (www.familypromise.org) . The recent social isolation requirements has hit this community hard – there is a massive influx in families seeking emergency shelter. Unfortunately, there are many families isolated in a hotel room with their family members, TV, and not much of anything else. Thankfully, there are other organizations and groups who are providing essentials for these families. We’re hoping to show love and generosity, beyond the essentials, by providing toys, games, and activities that they can do within their hotel room. This may be through books, coloring books, toys, word searches, etc.
Our vision is to create “grab bags” for children to be able to pick up and enjoy. These kids are all ages (birth-high school aged). We anticipate filling gallon sized ziplock bags with things to help further development and fight boredom. 🙂
So, here are two ways you can help:
(1) Give Financially. We will be buy new activity books, puzzles, play doh, baby toys, etc. with the funds we gather. You can give via https://rivcitychurch.churchc
(2) Donate gently used items (that are clean and sanitized). Drop off locations: The Mesko’s Porch (1758 Oakvale Dr SW, Wyoming, MI 49519) or The Kidder’s back porch (1654 Lake Michigan Drive NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504)
Let’s aim to have all donations gathered by Monday, March 30th.
