When Pain Brings Temptation
1 Samuel 24This weekend at River City, we continued our series through the life of David with a service shaped by trust, confession, communion, and a strong reminder that suffering does not give us permission to take sinful shortcuts. The morning opened with a call to fix our eyes on God the way David did, trusting the Lord even before all his promises are visible. After time in worship, confession, and communion, the church heard Psalm 37 read before Brad preached from 1 Samuel 24, where David refuses to seize God’s promise by killing Saul in the cave. Brad pressed on the real temptation underneath suffering: when pain drags on, sin can start to look reasonable. He pointed the church to Jesus, who also suffered without taking the easy escape, and sent everyone out with hope, gratitude, and a reminder about the upcoming family meeting on October 25.
